Changes to Opiod Prescription rules coming for the state of Mississippi

The MS Board of Medical Licensure has proposed dramatic changes to opioid prescription rules in an attempt to stem a state epidemic. Included in these changes are the amount of allowed refills, mandatory drug testing and a reclassification of clinic type based on the percentage of patients who receive opioid prescriptions.  Physicians who prescribe opioids will also be required to use the state’s prescription monitoring program, which shows a listing of all of the current and past prescriptions for individual patients.  The Board is expected to take a final vote on the new procedures at the November meeting.  Many local physicians were not aware of the potential changes due to a lack of communication from the board.  Click HERE to view the article from The Clarion Ledger.
